Our Campus

A Campus that Integrates Nature

The New Horizons Gap Year Program is located adjacent to the Ananda Village campus, surrounded by forests, a nearby sustainable farm, fruit orchards, permaculture gardens, a goat dairy cooperative and small CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) for seasonal vegetables. The village includes the Ananda Marketplace café for coffee, drinks and baked goods, local-made soups and entrees, Friday Night Vegetarian Pizzas, and special cuisine events.

Location is Everything

Our campus is a five-minute walk to Ananda Village spiritual community and the Expanding Light Retreat in the Sierra Nevada foothills of Northern California.

Some classes and events are held at the Ananda College Library of Higher Consciousness in Rajarshi Park at Ananda Village, adjacent to a small workout gym. The library classroom is a 15-minute walk from our campus. The Ananda Village marketplace and café is a10-minute walk away, as is the new Temple of Light for all religions. The Sacramento International Airport is 90 minutes south, and the Reno International Airport is two hours east of us.

Our campus includes rustic spaces for indoor and outdoor classes built with lumber hand-milled right on the site. Accommodations are in sustainable two-person bungalows with adjacent bath house. Three meals per day are healthy, delicious vegetarian style, including eggs. We do accommodate vegan and gluten free diets.

Our Community

While enrolled in the New Horizons Gap Year Program, you’ll get to spend time experiencing a spiritual cooperative community, joined by mentors currently living in the community, who will guide our group through hands-on development of community projects, teaching us practical and useful skills, while immersed in the local culture and environment. Ananda Village is a cooperative spiritual community dedicated to the teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda (1893-1952), author of the spiritual classic, Autobiography of a Yogi. The community was founded in 1969 by his direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda (1926-2013), and recently celebrated its 50th anniversary.
